Submission and integrity policies

Originality checks and anti-plagiarism policy

Authors are responsible for the content of their work and must ensure that it is original and unpublished, or clearly identify an updated version. To prevent plagiarism, Revista Ecúmene de Ciencias Sociales may screen submitted manuscripts with Turnitin using standard criteria. If plagiarism is confirmed, the manuscript will be rejected, the author notified, and the author permanently barred from publishing in the journal.

For a basic guide to common forms of plagiarism, see: http://publicationethics.org/search/site/plagiarism

Artificial intelligence policy

The RECS editorial bodies recognize that artificial intelligence (AI), including generative AI (GenAI), can assist with research, language editing, translation, and technical tasks. Its use does not replace authors' responsibility for the manuscript.

Authors must therefore disclose their use of AI or GenAI transparently by placing the following statement immediately after the references:

“During the preparation of this manuscript, we used [tool name, version/date] for [purpose: language editing/translation/rewriting/idea generation]. Its use was limited to [identify the sections in which it was used]. The substantive content (ideas, interpretation, conclusions) was developed and checked by the authors. All references were verified against the original sources. The authors take full responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the manuscript.” (sic) (Ruiz Mendoza, K. K. Manual in accordance with the 7th edition of APA for citing, documenting, and transparently reporting the use of generative AI (GenAI), UABC.) [This statement does not replace citations required by the citation system.]

If authors used AI or GenAI tools in writing the manuscript, including transcription or quotations, passages derived from those tools may not exceed three lines and must be cited in the document and text as follows:

Name of AI software (version) (year accessed). Response to a query on [topic] by [name of person], [date: day, month, year].

If AI or GenAI was used for tables, images, or figures, acknowledge it in a footnote as follows:

  1. Image generated with AI or GenAI on [topic]

[Insert image]

In the footnote, add: Figure generated by the author with Canva (2026) from the prompt “infographic…”. The image was edited to adjust contrast. No personal data or images of real people were used.

If the figure was adapted, acknowledge the original source.

In the footnote, add: Adapted from [citation]. Specify the software used and add: the author(s) verified that the substantive content was not altered (2).

(1) (2) Adapted from Ruiz Mendoza, Karina (2026). Manual in accordance with the 7th edition of APA for citing, documenting, and transparently reporting the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), FHCS, UABC.

Such citations may not exceed 15% of all citations in the manuscript.

  • Reviewers may not use artificial intelligence to produce their reports or comments on submitted manuscripts.

By submitting a manuscript, authors agree that the journal may use AI or GenAI detection tools before publication in addition to plagiarism detection tools. If AI or GenAI use was not disclosed, publication will be suspended—even after a favorable review—until the authors explicitly disclose its use and purpose.

Conflicts of interest policy

  • In the authorship and economic rights transfer declaration, authors must state whether they have any conflicts of interest. If an undisclosed conflict is subsequently identified, the editorial team will assess the case under its editorial ethics, corrections, and appeals policies.
