Author guidelines
Internal authorship
As a general rule, authors affiliated with the journal or serving on its editorial bodies should account for no more than 10% of the articles published in each issue.
External authorship
RECS gives priority to manuscripts from external authors. Submissions must follow the guidelines below:
- Manuscripts should preferably be submitted through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Authors must register in the system first. They may also notify the journal of their submission at ecumene@ensq.edu.mx or revistaecumenecs@gmail.com.
- The journal accepts original, previously unpublished contributions in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
- Manuscripts under consideration must not simultaneously be under review or pending publication in another journal, book, conference proceedings, or other publication venue.
- A manuscript may have no more than four authors.
- An author may publish no more than one article per year, except for interviews. When justified, the same author or authors may publish a continuation or second part of an interview in the next issue and in the same section if the interview exceeds 5,000 words. This exception applies only to interviews. During submission, authors must email a one-page explanation to ecumene@ensq.edu.mx or revistaecumenecs@gmail.com stating why the interview cannot be shortened to a single installment and why the second part should appear in the next issue.
General manuscript requirements
- The manuscript must be original, arise from scholarly work, and address topics relevant to RECS.
- The work must demonstrate scholarly rigor and a coherent argument.
- Conclusions must be valid and reliable.
- Manuscripts must be clear and precise and use academic language.
- The manuscript must result from an ethical research process.
- Authors must review their writing for coherence, clarity, and correct spelling before submission.
- The manuscript must comply with the editorial requirements.
- The text and all visual elements, including tables, charts, photographs, and figures, must be in black and white.
Editorial requirements
- Maximum length: 11,000 words, including notes, tables, figures, appendices, and references.
- Submit a Word file (.doc or .docx). Template link. The template is intended to facilitate editing, layout, and writing for RECS publications and to standardize their final presentation in the institutional repository of the Escuela Normal Superior de Querétaro (ENSQ).
- Times New Roman, 12-point font.
- Single line spacing.
- Top, bottom, left, and right margins of 3 cm.
- Consecutive page numbering.
- Footnotes, where needed, should be used only for Chicago-style citations or to expand on relevant information, such as acknowledgments or funding. Use Times New Roman, 10-point font, single spacing, and Arabic numerals.
- The manuscript submitted for review must be anonymized. Remove identifying information from both the text and the Word file properties to ensure double-anonymous review.
- Attach a signed permission letter for the use and reproduction of figures.
- Attach the signed rights transfer agreement and AI or GenAI use declaration.
- Attach a separate PDF author information sheet containing:
- Manuscript title.
- Full names of authors in order of contribution.

- Email address.
- Academic degree.
- Full institutional affiliation.
- ORCID iD.
- Identify the corresponding author with the symbol and words: * Corresponding author.
- The order of authors must reflect their contributions. RECS is not responsible for errors or changes requested later.
All articles must include:
- A title in Spanish and English (maximum 18 words). If the manuscript is written in Portuguese, Spanish is the second language and the title must therefore also be provided in Spanish. If English is the original language, the second-language title must be in Spanish.
- Do not put a period at the end of the main title.
- An abstract in Spanish and English (maximum 250 words). If the manuscript is written in Portuguese, Spanish is the second language and the abstract must therefore also be provided in Spanish. If English is the original language, the second-language abstract must be in Spanish.
- Three to five keywords in Spanish and English. If the manuscript is written in Portuguese, Spanish is the second language and keywords must therefore also be provided in Spanish. If English is the original language, the second-language keywords must be in Spanish.
- Complete references, including DOIs whenever available.
- Funding information, where applicable, in a footnote on the first page of the manuscript immediately after the word “abstract” (footnotes are in Times New Roman, 10-point font).

If a quotation exceeds four lines (or reaches 100 words, or exceeds two lines of poetry), set it as a separate indented block, single-spaced and without quotation marks, with a blank line before and after. Use a smaller font than the main text and place the superscript note number at the end.
If an author has used artificial intelligence tools when writing the manuscript, including for transcription, quotations, or drafting, passages derived from those tools may not exceed three lines and must be cited in the document as follows:

Such citations may not exceed 15% of all citations in the manuscript.
Direct quotations exceeding four lines or 100 words must appear as separate indented blocks, with a 0.5-inch left indent, single spacing, no quotation marks, and a smaller font than the main text.
